Samsung Galaxy Note 3

FTC Disclosure: I received a Samsung Note 3 to use and review from Verizon Wireless. The device is on loan and will be return to Verizon Wireless when my reviews and work is complete. All views and opinions with regard to the products or company itself are my own and were not influenced, nor reviewed, by the company prior to posting.

I love all things tech. I have to admit it, I am a geek when it comes to my techy toys. But when it comes to my phone, I take some extra time to really get in to all the details. It’s important to me because my phone keeps me connected. I can use it on the go. I can manage my social media accounts, my emails, my blog and so much more. My smart phone has really truly become a tool that I need in my every day life. I also like the fact that I can allow my kids to play some educational games if I am in need, like when I am at a doctor’s appointment.

When I really thought about my phone, my iPhone, I had to ask myself, did it meet ALL of my needs? In simple, the answer was no. I’ve know for some time now that it hasn’t met my needs, however, I am a creature of habit and I didn’t want to rock the “comfort” boat. It’s also so much easier to stay in a phone when you’ve got the rest of your family all in the same device. The fact of the matter is that it truly just isn’t logical for me to stay in a device that doesn’t do everything I need it to do.

Is the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 the phone for me? Is the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 the phone for you? I had to ask myself this same question many times. I’ve balanced on the fence with an Apple device and an Android device for about the last year. Having partnered with Verizon, I have test drove a few newer Android devices. Specifically, the last few weeks I’ve been giving the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 a run. There are so many amazing features on this phone. I am going to be breaking up the posts to make them easier to read and point out features. Watch for those special feature posts coming up! You won’t want to miss them.

What Makes The Note 3 Different?

When the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 debuted last fall, it got a lot of mixed reviews. Most of them were in regards to the size of the phone. While I can appreciate this obvious difference, I appreciate it for the positive it brings. Some of the noted features that set the Note 3 apart are:
  • Large 5.7 inch HD Super AMOLED display screen 1080×1920 pixel resolution, scratch resistant glass
  • Weighs 5.93 ounces
  • Amazing 13 megapixel rear camera (2 megapixel front facing camera)
  • S Pen – A stylus that tucks safely in the phone (pen contains a button that allows you more multiple functions)
  • Long lasting 3200 mAh battery (this battery is a beast! It won’t let you down)
  • Multiple pages with a magazine type layout
  • Scrapbook – This little bulletin board can keep your favorite websites, DIY tutorials, photos and more all pinned to your favorite category
  • Action Memo – Hand write your notes with the S Pen and turn your handwriting into text
  • Multi Window – Have 2 windows open on your phone screen at one time. You can watch a You Tube video while surfing through Facebook. This is one of my FAVORITE features!
  • WatchOn – This is an amazing feature that will turn your phone into a universal remote control that will control your TV, your DirecTV or othe provider. It also contains the TV guide and will recommend shows based on your favorites or the shows you frequently watch.
  • Air Controls – The phone will learn you are reading and will auto scroll and more.
  • Send messages, make calls and more without having to touch the phone. Hands-free mode will read out incoming callers information and more.
  • Swype – This feature is great. You can swype across the keyboard along the letters of the word you wanted to type. For me this makes texting or long replies so much easier.
There are so many more features of this phone. Even after having this phone for 3 weeks I still haven’t learned everything. Every day I find new features that I love. Every day I test out new features. There is so much to learn with this phone. Being the size of this phone, a larger phone can be harder to use one handed. Samsung did address that and added to the Note 3 a one handed feature that can be enabled. It makes even the smaller hands comfortable holding and using this phone one handed.

The phone is really a mix between a phone and a small tablet. It is one of the best business phones made. This is a huge bonus for me (and many others). You can sign things right on your phone. No longer do you have to print a document, sign the document, scan the document, then email the document back. Viewing, editing and sending documents and spreadsheets right from your phone make this phone more unique. The stylus is also beneficial for taking notes and drawing graphs or charts. Let’s not forget that with an array of children’s apps in the Play Store, there are apps the children can use to practice writing, learning letters and even coloring! The best of both worlds. You have a phone that can not only run your business/blog, your life and manage to keep your kiddos busy if you need a moment.

One Handed Use

The first thing that everyone that has seen the Note 3 I’ve been using is in regards to the size. I have small hands, so this was something that I really thought would be a problem for me. When I went browsing through the settings, I learned quickly that Samsung had really thought that out and made the phone operational for one handed use. You can do right hand or left hand.

Samsung, Note 3, Samsung Note 3
This for me was an amazing feature. I have since stopped using the one handed operation. As I have gotten used to the phone, I can operate it with both hands just as effectively as I could one handed. Text messages is the only exception to that. I like to have one handed operation with that, however, with swype for typing, I can still use one handed for text messages.

Multiple Window Operation

Multiple window operation was a HUGE selling point for me on this phone. I love the fact that I can have two windows open. I can look up something I need on You Tube or Google and finish a text message or send off a link to someone via email. It’s a wonderful feature that I can not imagine how I did without. I know that the iPhone has a similar feature with the double tap home button, but you can only see one window at a time. With this you see the both windows.

Now I have the screens split evenly. You can adjust to make one screen smaller then the other. But you can see what this looks like and you can see how this would be a great feature for many different reasons. Here’s one thing that I have to point out. I often like to listen to music on You Tube, but the moment I open a different app or window on my iPhone, the music stops. It’s frustrating. With the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, this isn’t even something I have to worry about!

Hands Free Mode

My husband and I often have conversations about using phones while driving. It’s very dangerous and being we live in a larger city, it’s in the news all the time. I love that the Note 3 has a Hands Free mode that allows things like the callers/senders name is read out loud.

Samsung, Note 3, Samsung Note 3
This feature is another favorite of mine. It also reads alarms out loud. I also love that with the Air Gestures on the Note 3 this phone is so practical. It’s perfect for me as a busy mom, any busy person really!

Notifications

I have to admit, I am not a person that likes my phone sounding off for every little thing. I do love to look at the notifications with one quick glance. The iPhone notification center has changed so much and it has NOT been for the positive. I LOVE the notification center on the Note 3. It’s perfect for me to see everything at a quick glance.

Note 3 Notification Center

The notification center on the Note 3 is so easy to read and navigate. It also has the small gear near the top. This will open up the full settings without having to find an icon on your home screen. The four small boxes, extends the quick settings, which allow you to turn on and off specific features like the WiFi, Air Gestures, Airplane Mode and more.

There is so much more to say about the Note 3. I hope you will stop back and read more as I dig deeper into this phone and the things that set it apart. I will be writing a piece on the camera and photography with this phone (which is SO stunning), take a look inside my Scrapbook and things the kids can use your Note 3 for! In the meantime, take a stop into your Verizon Wireless store and check out the Note 3 and all of the features and things it offers! You won’t be let down!

I LOVE the fact that you can write your notes with a stylus – I hate it when I get stuck somewhere and have to quickly write a note on my phone, because it always autocorrects it into complete gibberish. I can do a much better job of deciphering my chicken scratch writing than trying to figure out what autocorrects mean. ;) This looks like a neat phone.

Beeb, I completely agree on that! Auto correct can be the death of me sometimes!! Much easier to hand write notes down quickly and retrieve them later!

I’ve seen the Note personally and it really is a pretty large phone! I never thought I’d need a phone that big but as much as I use my Android and start getting into more of my blogging/business ownership, I realize what an ASSET that phone really can be!

It sounds like this phone comes with some fantastic features! I love how they have a one-handed feature; I can’t tell you how many times I find myself only using one hand with my phone. LOL

Kayla, One of the things that I really love is that I can sign contracts and send them back within minutes. It is so much simpler with the Note! The large size is still taking me some getting used to, but it’s one of the things that is nice about it actually. When I am reading on it of doing something, It’s much faster with a larger screen that I can SEE.

It’s great to get some real info on another phone besides the iPhone. I am thinking of switching away from my iPhone in the future but am never sure anything else can live up to it. This is great info to have for my consideration of swapping. Thanks!

I love that the battery lasts for a long time on this. I end up charging my iPhone twice a day!!

Robin, me too! And it never used to be that way. The reason I always went back to the iPhone was the battery. It always kept up with me. Now, not so much. Even idle I end up charging it at least once during the day.

You have given me several reasons why I NEED to upgrade to this! I love the long battery life, the fact that I can write with the stylus, the split screen! Oh so man reasons.

Robyn, the battery is completely amazing! Yesterday I did everything I needed to do (instagram, photos, emails, texts, calls, etc) and I also was streaming Netflix through Chromecast on it. The battery was at 74% when I went to bed. My iPhone, which sat idle was at 52%! This phone is a must have for us bloggers!

Samsung’s phones have really stepped up their game. Good to know that you can still use one hand with it despite the size.

That’s awesome! I had the S4 a while back. I did love it but the battery was awful on it for me. The Note 3 battery is great though. I think Samsung improved it with the newer models! I do prefer the Samsung phones as well. I am partial to them!

It’s a great size, my girlfriend has one! I love the stylus option and I think Swype is brilliant, I find myself trying it on my phone to no avail, but it would make things so much easier! Great review!
